Hormones, Change & Self-Awareness

As I moved through menopause, I began to recognize how rarely it is discussed in nuanced or empowering ways. It is often framed as a decline rather than a transition. I chose to approach it the same way I approach any complex challenge, analytically, with curiosity, and with a sense of confidence in my ability to navigate change while continuing to feel strong and well.

During this period, I began noticing meaningful connections between changes in estrogen and other aspects of my health. Fluctuations in hormone levels appeared to influence sleep quality, tissue changes, and overall resilience in ways I had not fully appreciated before.

One particularly insightful moment came during an appointment with an ENT specialist. I learned that significant declines in estrogen are associated with changes in soft tissue tone throughout the body, including within the airway. For some women, these changes may increase the likelihood of obstructive sleep apnea, even in those who have never previously snored. That conversation reinforced for me how interconnected hormonal health truly is.

Understanding these relationships encouraged me to observe more carefully, ask better questions, and make thoughtful adjustments where appropriate.
In my experience, menopause sharpened my awareness and strengthened my resolve to remain actively engaged in my own health.

For me, menopause has felt less like a crisis and more like another physiological transition, a reminder to recalibrate and care for my body in new ways, much like the transitions we experience at other points in life.
